ABSTRACT

PurposeThe purpose of this paper is to study enterprise innovation in the perspective of external supplier relationship. On this purpose, this paper examines the impact of supplier change on enterprise innovation with the moderating role of market competition.Design/methodology/approachUsing 2012–2020 empirical data of Chinese listed manufacturing enterprises, this paper investigates the relationship among supplier change, market competition and enterprise innovation through a two-way interaction model.FindingsThe results show that supplier change has a negative impact on enterprise innovation. And market competition intensifies the negative relationship between supplier change and enterprise innovation. Additional analyses indicate that the main effect and the moderating effect are more significant when the enterprise is non-state-owned or has lower ownership concentration.Originality/valueThis paper studies enterprise innovation from the perspective of external stakeholders. It focuses on supplier relationship in a dynamic variation view, instead of the traditional static ones. Moreover, this paper explores the contingency effect of market competition and gives practical implications for managers to adjust innovation strategy flexibly.

ABSTRACT

Background: Online learning and teaching were globally popularized due to the impact of Covid-19. The pandemic has made both synchronous and asynchronous online learning inevitable in regions privileged with the technological affordance. Aims: This study was designed to examine and compare the effectiveness of both learning modes through the Community of Inquiry framework. Materials & Methods: Comparative analyses on a sample of N = 170 undergraduate students who took both synchronous and asynchronous online courses in Spring 2021. Results: The paired-sample T-tests results indicated a significant difference in social presence, cognitive presence and self-evaluated performance. Discussion & Conclusion: Teaching presence significantly influenced social presence and cognitive presence in both learning modes. However, under synchronous learning mode, social presence significantly impacted self-evaluation, grades and school identification. While social presence only influenced school identification under asynchronous learning mode. Theoretical and practical implications were also included.

ABSTRACT

In this paper we investigate herding behavior triggered by the COVID-19 outbreak in 2020 by considering six typical Asian stock markets. Cross-sectional Standard Deviation (CSSD) and Cross-sectional Absolute Deviation (CSAD) have been employed as the key indicators, which are aligned with the Markov-switching regression and HS model to identify the presence and magnitude of herding. We then elaborate our study by examining herding in specific time slots and markets with different idiosyncratic volatility. Our empirical results show a clear presence of herding in the “Feb 2020-Jan 2021” time window and we have captured a sharp rise of the magnitude of herding during the market crash in March 2020, and found herding emerged in these markets with shocks and fierce fluctuations.
